Since last year marked the 23rd anniversary of the seventh Air Jordan model, it was not surprising that Jordanheads were expecting the Air Jordan 7 “Olympic” to make its comeback. It was probably disappointing that this did not happen. However, a rumor began circulating later in 2015 that the sneaker would indeed return but in 2016. While the Jordan releases of the Air Jordan 7 “Olympics” still scheduled to take place this year, the Jumpman decided to add a new twist to the release. This is the reason that the upcoming version is being referred to as the “Tinker Alternative.”
Originally, it was during the Barcelona Olympic Games back in 1992 that the world was first introduced to the Air Jordan 7 “Olympic”. The reason the sneaker is considered so iconic and legendary is because it had been worn by Michael Jordan himself, back when he played as a part of the “Dream Team,” the U.S. men’s Olympic basketball team. Due to the impact the sneaker had made following its first release, Jordan Brand re-released it in the form of a retro in 2012. With the 2016 Summer Olympics scheduled to take place between August 5 and 21 in Rio de Janeiro, it would be the idea time for the sneaker’s arrival.
This year’s Air Jordan 7 “Tinker Alternative” will indeed be an alternate version of the “Olympic” rendition from 1992. While the original Air Jordan 7 “Olympic” had not been created by Tinker Hatfield, this one has been and gives Jordanheads an idea of what the sneaker would have looked like if he actually had. This “Tinker Alternate” iteration features a myriad of hues over its predominantly White upper, including Fie Red, Deep Royal Blue, Lite Iron Ore and Metallic Gold Coin. A particularly notable difference is that the underlays sport Blue accents more prominently.
Jordanheads probably still want the original“Olympic” colorway to return and it is difficult to speculate whether or not Jordan Brand will ever bring it back. However, the Air Jordan 7 “Tinker Alternate” is the next best thing and its Jordan releases will take place around the time of the Rio 2016 Olympics, i.e. on August 16th.
