Air Jordan 15: 1999–2000

Jordan Brand released Jordan 15 during the 1999–2000 season, but Jordan himself never wore them in an NBA game since he had already retired. During the 1950s, NASA had developed the revolutionary X-15 fighter jet, and that is where the inspiration of  Jordan 15’s aerodynamic design came from. The pair had a tongue that somewhat drooped forward, parallel to the ground.

There was also a red stripe featured on the shoe, which went from the bottom of the heel all the way up the back. Prada shoes were known for having a signature stripe, which made many wonder whether that is where the inspiration for the red stripe featured on Jordan 15 came from. The woven upper featured by the pair was also supposed to be “original,” but speculations where that inspiration for the upper came from Italian designers. The release of Jordan 15 also marked the last time Tinker Hatfield designed a shoe for Jordan Brand.

Even a slip-on moccasin model of Jordan 15 was later released by Jordan Brand, which did not turn out to be much of a success. After waiting long enough, Jordan Brand eventually released a Retro Black/Varsity Red and Black/Metallic Gold-White colorway of Jordan 15 in 2007, and another Black/Varsity Red colorway in 2008.

Last year, Jordan Brand gave away a limited number of pairs of the “#XX8 Days Of Flight” colorway of Jordan 15 to a handful of lucky winners of an Instagram-related competition.
