The launch of the Air Jordan 30 (XXX) finally took place and it is likely that many of the Jordanheads reading this were not able to catch up with live coverage of the event. Fortunately, official photos of the thirtieth signature Air Jordan model have finally been published. In fact, as it had been predicted, even the date for the Jordan release date 2016 of the debuting Air Jordan 30 iteration was revealed during the event. The latest Air Jordan silhouette reflects Michael Jordan’s evolution as a basketball athlete and his contributions towards his own line of basketball sneakers.
Yet again, the legendary Tinker Hatfield is the one responsible for designing the Air Jordan 30, which makes sense considering that he designed a majority of the Air Jordan models, especially the most iconic ones. However, it was actually Michael Jordan who came up with the idea back in February 2015 and requested that a brand new silhouette should be designed in order to pay homage to the Air Jordan’s and Jordan Brand’s 30th Anniversary. Tinker Hatfield drew inspiration from Michael Jordan’s photo taken back when he participated in the 1988 Dunk contest and revived it.
It would not be wrong to describe Michael Jordan’s talents as out of this world and inspired by that, Tinker Hatfield sketched a galactic-themed figure of the G.O.A.T. that he named “Mister Cosmos.” Tinker Hatfield teamed up with Mark Smith, another legendary designer like him, in order to come up with the story behind the model, which references 30 years of the Air Jordan line while being aimed at the future.
As far as the aesthetic of the Air Jordan 30 is concerned, the profile of the sneaker is quite sleek. During the design process, Tinker Hatfield focused on and followed a minimalistic theme. This is the reason that that the Air Jordan 30 looks so refined, simplistic and sophisticated. Its upper is a combination of printed, knit and woven materials that make the latest Air Jordan model breathable, soft and strong. The top line of the sneaker appears to be asymmetrical, somewhat similar to that of the Air Jordan 12, and for the very first time, an Air Jordan sneaker features a knit collar.
The heel of the Air Jordan 30 also sports a unique feature, namely the “XXX” that resembles a basketball net and signifies that it is the thirtieth installment in the Air Jordan series. Additionally, a new dotted printing process and technique was used for the graphics that are visible on its upper, which has also enhanced its breathability and durability. Moreover, the revamped FlightSpeed outsole that rests beneath is also quite lightweight and it performs optimally with impressive traction. The Jordan release 2016 of the first “White/Wolf Grey-Black” Air Jordan 30 colorway is scheduled to take place on February 12th at select Jordan retailers and it will retail at a price of $200.
